Helping Drogheda grow greener, healthier and more sustainable food habits.
The Sustainable Veggie Box was a community project designed to encourage local participation in sustainable food practices — making fresh produce, environmental awareness, and healthy living part of everyday life in Drogheda.
This initiative brought people together to explore gardening, seasonal growing and eco-friendly food systems right in the heart of the town.
The Sustainable Veggie Box project invited residents, families and community groups to learn about growing their own produce, reducing food waste and making sustainable choices in how they source their food.
It focused on:
Teaching practical growing skills
Encouraging people to grow seasonal vegetables
Promoting the benefits of local and sustainable food systems
Connecting participants with nature and with one another
The initiative supported participants with resources, guidance and encouragement to start or expand their own veggie projects — whether in backyard spaces, community plots or containers.
Participants were supported through:
The project emphasised small, manageable steps — from sowing seeds and tending plants, to harvesting delicious vegetables and integrating them into everyday meals.
The Sustainable Veggie Box project achieved several positive outcomes:
By putting simple tools and knowledge into people’s hands, the project helped make sustainability both practical and rewarding.
The Sustainable Veggie Box wasn’t just about growing vegetables — it was about growing confidence, community and connection to nature. It reminded participants that sustainability begins close to home and that small steps can lead to meaningful impact.
Whether you can volunteer your time, support our projects, or simply spread the word, every effort helps us keep Drogheda clean, green, and thriving.
