How We Work

A Community Working Together

Our Tidy Towns Committee is made up of local volunteers working together to improve and care for our community. Alongside the main committee, a number of subcommittees focus on specific areas such as the environment, biodiversity, heritage, and community engagement.

Together, we plan projects, organise activities, and work with the council. residents, businesses, and local groups to make our town cleaner, greener, and a more welcoming place, we can all be proud of.

This section explains how our committee and subcommittees work and how we collaborate. A lot of what we do is driven by input from the community on what is important, so we always need and very much welcome input and ideas.

We hold monthly committee meetings, and our Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place in Quarter 2 each
year, where officers are elected, and our work is planned and reviewed.

Our Subcommittees

To support the wide range of work happening across Drogheda, we operate a number of Subcommittees, each focusing on a key area of the Tidy Towns programme. These groups meet as needed and work closely with the main Committee. Here are examples of our subcommittees:

Biodiversity Subcommittee

Leads on pollinator-friendly planting, habitat protection and creation, improving our environment, and developing and managing projects that support wildlife, ecosystems, and biodiversity across Drogheda.

Litter Management Subcommittee

Coordinates cleanups, litterpicking routines, and engagement around keeping Drogheda clean and managing litter free.

Heritage Projects Subcommittee

Supports and manages projects that improve Drogheda’s rich history, protect and improve heritage features, and enhance the character of our streets and public spaces.

Sustainability Subcommittee (New)

A new group is currently being established to focus on waste reduction, circular economy ideas, energy and sustainability awareness, and practical sustainability projects for the town.

Project-Specific Working Groups

In addition to our standing subcommittees, we regularly set up short-term project groups to deliver specific initiatives, such as park improvements, mural and sculpture projects, and planting schemes. These groups bring together contractors, volunteers, and local people with the skills and interest to agree and implement each project.
