Understanding the potential of an overlooked natural space.
The Cement Quarry Survey was a community-focused project carried out in Drogheda to gather insights, observations and local perspectives about the abandoned cement quarry site. While once an industrial landscape, the quarry had become a unique terrain where nature and community interest intersect.
Volunteers and local stakeholders contributed to:
walking and observing the site
recording existing vegetation and land features
discussing ideas for future use or enhancement
gathering opinions on what the quarry means to people locally
The survey was designed to capture local knowledge and interest — forming a baseline understanding of what the quarry represents and how it might be valued or improved in future initiatives.
Places like the old cement quarry can be overlooked or undervalued. By surveying and documenting local perspectives, this project helped highlight what matters to people, and provided a starting point for thoughtful future action.
Whether you can volunteer your time, support our projects, or simply spread the word, every effort helps us keep Drogheda clean, green, and thriving.
